At just one year of age, our website is younger than every single car we’ve ever featured. Our social media platforms aren’t much older either.
The vision for Carbs and Coffee was and remains simple – to show the world that South Africa has a magnificent selection of cars and picturesque roads to enjoy them on. Of course, we are also huge motorsport enthusiasts, so creating a platform to give exposure to local motorsport was irresistible.
Our website launched on 3rd August 2018. We couldn’t be happier with the response we’ve had from the petrolhead community. We are so grateful for the support from our fans, our columnists and our advertising partners, all of whom are critical to making Carbs and Coffee a success.
The founders of Carbs and Coffee are around 30 years old. We weren’t around when most of the cars we love were dicing from robot to robot on a Friday night. We certainly weren’t there for the peak of South African motorsport, which included an F1 race on the calendar and the magic of Group N.
This is a good thing. It gives us a unique lens through which we view the world, at least among most classic car and motorsport publications.
We view the local motorsport scene as still giving a thrill ride of note (especially behind the wheel) and we appreciate classic cars for the stuff that makes them truly special several decades after they were built.
We have exciting plans for the year ahead. In the meantime, here’s a selection of some of our favourite photos. We hope you enjoy walking down memory lane with us…

From Andrew and Rob – thank you for experiencing our first year with us!
